History of SmartWings

SmartWings was founded in 2004 and is a subsidiary of another Czech airline called Travel Service which is part of the Icelandair Group. SmartWings operates out of their home base in Prague with modern and comfortable jet services to destinations all over Europe and beyond. It is owned by Travel Service which is the largest private airline company in the Czech Republic. In 2009 SmartWings served 1.8 million passengers. With low fares and high standards on safety, SmartWings hopes to become a leading low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe.

• Onboard Services

  • Meals: There are reasonably-priced refreshments and snacks on all flights. Some of the menu’s options include sandwiches, coffee, teas, crisps and more! Passengers are also invited to bring their own food should they choose.
  • Entertainment: Passengers are welcome to bring their own reading material and electronic devices (laptops, electronic games, walkmans, etc) to use after take-off.

• Baggage Allowances

  • Cabin: 1 small piece of hand luggage is allowed for each passenger. It cannot weigh more than 5 kg and must not be larger than 56 x 45 x 25 cm.
  • Checked: The free baggage allowance for each passenger is 20 kg. Passengers travelling with the same reservation may pool their luggage allowance, otherwise not.
  • Excess: If a passenger’s luggage exceeds 20 kg, there is a fee of €8/kg.
