XL Airways was founded in 1995 as Star Airlines which was owned by Transat A.T. It was sold to the XL Leisure Group and the name was changed. XL Airways France and its sister airline XL Airways German are now funded by Straumur-Burdaras Investment Bank, as of 2008. Today XL Airways is dedicated to serving tourist destinations all over the world with low prices. Their specialty destinations are in the Mediterranean Basin as well as longer-haul flights to the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

- Meals: Depending on the length of flight there is either a small snack or sandwich served or a hot meal is served on all flights longer than 2 hours. Beverages are always complimentary.
- Entertainment: On long-haul flights there are 1 or 2 films shown as well as a variety of television programs and news. There is also reading material available.
Baggage Allowances
- Cabin: 1 piece per passenger is permitted. It must not weigh more than 5 kg and may not be larger than 55 x 40 x 20 cm.
- Checked: On short and medium-haul flights passengers may check 20 kg of free baggage allowance. On flights to the USA and Canada passengers may check 35 kg. On all other long-haul flights passengers may check up to 25 kg.
- Excess: On short and medium-haul flights there is a fee of €10/kg while on long-haul flights the fee is €12/kg.
